Job Summary
As the Communications Specialist, you will drive SHCSC’s communication efforts across multiple platforms, promoting our schools’ achievements, initiatives, and community engagement. This role serves as the main point of contact for district-wide communications, overseeing content creation, social media strategy, marketing, and the implementation of our district-wide communication platform, Thrillshare. You will manage communications for the entire district, including each of our eight school buildings, to create cohesive messaging that aligns with SHCSC’s mission and strengthens our presence in the community.
Job Responsibilities
Strategic Communications:
Develop and execute comprehensive communication strategies that reflect SHCSC's mission, values, and community goals.
Ensure the district corporate communications plan is being implemented at each level and offer recommendations to improve the plan as needed.
Oversee the implementation and effective use of our district-wide communication platform, Thrillshare. Serve as the liaison with Apptegy’s client success manager to troubleshoot user and app issues, provide feedback on app improvements, and ensure the platform meets SHCSC's communication needs.
Support teachers in integrating the app into their classrooms, assist parents with platform access, and coordinate with relevant staff to ensure classes are accurately set up each school year.
Craft press releases, columns, blogs, and email copy to effectively communicate important updates and achievements.
Lead crisis communication incidents for school safety or other unfavorable events.
Social Media Management: Oversee social media platforms for South Harrison, including planning, creating, and scheduling content that is engaging, informative, and resonates with our audience. Work with a multi-channel approach to reach parents, students, and community members across platforms.
Content Creation: Produce high-quality written, visual, and audio content, including podcast episodes, graphic designs, and promotional materials, to highlight SHCSC initiatives, academic achievements, and community events.
Marketing and Branding: Design and implement marketing strategies to increase the visibility of SHCSC schools and programs. Collaborate with school representatives, including teachers and coaches, to ensure consistent messaging and branding.
Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a liaison between SHCSC and its stakeholders, including parents, students, faculty, and local media outlets. Develop relationships with community members and partners to enhance SHCSC’s presence and foster collaboration.
Events Coordination: Lead district-wide events and develop cohesive events at each school building. Act as team lead for event organization, with building principals and staff as support. Responsibilities include planning and executing Open House events at the start of the school year, assisting with career days, and floating to support special events at each building.
Board Meeting Livestream Production: Manage the livestreaming of board meetings in compliance with state legislation. This includes running the livestream, presenting slides for guest presenters, and ensuring smooth, high-quality online access for the community.
Internal Communication: Manage internal communications, supporting teachers and staff in effectively communicating with students and parents through platforms such as Thrillshare Media and Thrillshare Rooms.
Job Expectations
Develop and maintain a robust, cohesive social media calendar that highlights student success, school events, and educational resources.
Maintain the district and each school’s website.
Provide timely and accurate responses to inquiries from parents, students, staff, and media.
Work collaboratively with school leaders to identify storytelling opportunities within classrooms, extracurricular activities, and community events.
Coordinate district-wide events, acting as the lead organizer and ensuring consistent branding and community engagement.
Manage technical aspects of the board meeting livestream to ensure compliance and a seamless experience for remote attendees.
Stay informed on emerging trends in social media and digital marketing, applying best practices to keep SHCSC’s content relevant and engaging.
Measure and report on the success of digital marketing and communication strategies, providing regular updates to leadership.
Preferred Job Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.
3+ years of experience in a communications or marketing role, preferably in the education sector.
Proven expertise in social media management, content creation, and digital marketing.
Strong writing and editing skills, with experience in producing diverse forms of content (e.g., press releases, blogs, social media posts).
Familiarity with multimedia content creation, including podcast editing, basic graphic design, and video production.
Proficiency with communication tools and platforms such as Thrillshare, Canva, and Adobe Creative Suite.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high attention to detail.
